On January 6 of this year, the ”lawmakers”, which is to say the members of the House of Representatives and of the Senate, met in the nations capital of Washington, as per the Constitution, in order to ratify the Electoral Votes of the recent federal election, concerning the next president and vice president. Normally this is conducted in a most solemn, ceremonial manner, a ”sacred undertaking”, within the building of the ”citadel of American democracy”. This day has proven to be something other than ”normal”.
As all court appeals have accomplished nothing, Trump appealed to his ”base”, to his supporters, to go to Washington, on the ”day of appointment”, presumably in order to ”express their disapproval”. Trump has consistently maintained that the ”election was stolen”. A great many people believe him, and responded to his request.
It is estimated that thirty thousand people responded to this appeal. Many were waving American flags and carrying banners which proclaimed Stop the Steal. They were chanting U-S-A, marched up the steps of the Capital building and through the doors. The police who were guarding the building fled in terror, although it is reported that a few of them had their pictures taken with the protesters. Other members of the police blockaded the doors of the room in which the Members of Congress were meeting. The Members of Congress in turn lied down on the floor, hiding behind the chairs, terrified of the very citizens they had sworn to serve. Cowards! They showed their ”true colours”.
The Secret Service quickly escorted the Vice President, the ”master of ceremonies”, so to speak, out of the building, to the safety of an ”undisclosed location”. In turn, the VP, as the man of action that he is, immediately called out the National Guard, as a means of assisting the Capitol police, in their efforts to restore ”law and order”.
As the protesters were largely peaceful, it is not clear just what ”law and order” the National Guard was expected to restore. Unless they were called out because a window was broken and a few people crawled through the openings, into the building. The vast majority merely walked through the doorway, as the Capitol police had politely stepped aside. None of the protesters was armed, although it is possible that a few criminal elements were carrying concealed firearms. But then no gun shots were reported, so that the reports of ”four people being killed” is probably a fabrication of the authorities. As well, similar reports of two ”pipe bombs” is also very likely bogus.
The revolutionary motion in now very broad and deep. The protesters, working class people, are convinced that the ”election was stolen”, and they are almost certainly correct. The election was stolen. The ”powers that be”, which is to say the capitalists, the ruling class, has decided that Trump has to go, and arranged to have him lose the election.
The working people, or at least the most advanced stratum of the working class, knows this for a fact because two of the most highly respected lawyers, members of the capitalist class, have gone public, have explained the methods the bourgeois use, in order to falsify elections! They have ”spilled the beans”. The cat is now ”out of the bag”. They explained, in simple, common everyday terms, the precise manner in which elections are falsified, ”rigged” or ”fixed”, as most people refer to it.
These two attorneys, or lawyers, are among the highest paid in the country. One of them is the former mayor of New York City. Both are among the most devoted followers of Trump. Neither has ever been accused of being a ”Closet Communist”. Yet they explained that the simplest, ”time honoured”, method of rigging an election is by having individuals vote on numerous occasions. It was in this manner that the presidential election of 1960 was fixed, so that John Kennedy was elected, as opposed to Richard Nixon. As those were the days of black and white television, most of the younger generation cannot imagine this. As well, there were no computers, no internet. That same generation considers such a time as little different from the Stone Age.
Since those ”olden days”, times have changed, and thieves have changed with the times. More accurately, they have become better educated, if not smarter. Many have learned to use the latest technology. This has opened up whole new vistas of fraud and deception. A ”brave new world” of most profitable corruption has appeared to the more enlightened mobsters. The modern day ”geniuses of crime” have embraced the opportunities presented by the internet. Stealing from countries is far more profitable than robbing banks!
While the tried and tested method of multiple voting is still wide spread, as is the fraudulent use of mail in ballots, the modern mobsters have ”broadened their horizons”. Those who are skilled computer programmers now take great delight in falsifying elections, from the comfort of their own homes. Using the internet, they can send orders to machines which ”count ballots”. In this way the machine records the ”correct” number of votes, cast for the selected candidate. The marvels of modern technology!
It is important to give credit where credit is due, and the American working class is eternally grateful to two of the finest, highest paid lawyers in the country. Remarkable but true. But then in times of revolution, very strange, very temporary alliances make their appearance. This is one of those strange alliances.
This was explained by Marx in the Communist Manifesto: ”In times when the class struggle nears the decisive hour, the process of dissolution going on within the ruling class, in fact within the whole range of old society, assumes such a violent, glaring character, that a small section of the ruling class cuts itself adrift and joins the revolutionary class, the class that holds the future in its hands.
”Just as, therefore, at an earlier period, a section of the nobility went over to the bourgeoisie, so now a portion of the bourgeoisie goes over to the proletariat, and in particular, a portion of the bourgeois ideologists, who have raised themselves to the level of comprehending theoretically the historical movement as a whole.”
It is clear that the class struggle is nearing the ”decisive hour”, that the revolution is very near. In fact, it could break out any day. As a result of this, a ”small section of the ruling class”, in this case two lawyers, have ”cut themselves adrift”, and effectively joined the working class, the proletariat, the ”class that holds the future in its hands”.
As yet, these two have perhaps not ”completely comprehended theoretically the historical movement as a whole”, but they have performed a valuable service to the working class. It is very likely that they ”speak from experience”, and have, in the past, probably ”made a career” of fixing elections! By their actions, they have joined the working class, in opposition to the capitalist class. It is entirely possible that their practice leads their theory.
Either way, it is up to the working class to welcome them into their midst. Under no circumstances should their past be held against them! On the contrary, most workers will listen to them as they explain the ”inner workings” of the capitalists. This in turn will no doubt help to raise the level of awareness of the working class. This is, of course, referred to as class consciousness.
The response of the capitalists to this ”Day of Reckoning” is quite revealing. The journalists expressed the outrage of the capitalists, as they work for the capitalists, and to do otherwise is to face termination. In simple English, they would be fired.
With that in mind, they referred to this ”Day of Reckoning” as an ”attempted coup, an armed insurrection” (even though the protesters had no weapons), an ”act of treason”, ”disgraceful violence”. They accused the protesters of being ”domestic terrorists”, of engaging in acts of ”insurrection”, that such ”disorder is borderline sedition”. The protesters were referred to as a ”mob”, ”anarchists”, ”thugs and punks”. ”They have undermined the rule of law through the use of force” (a window was broken!). ”This was an assault on the rule of law…an attack on a most sacred ritual to affirm democracy, in the Citadel of democracy” (so now the Capital building is a religious site?) The protesters have ”desecrated the chair of the Vice President” (one of the protesters sat in it!) just as another protester sat in the chair of the Speaker of the House. No doubt that chair too was ”desecrated”! That same protester left a note for the Speaker: ”We Will Not Back Down!”
The capitalists are not about to take this lying down! Even though they ”have never seen anything like this”, as it is ”unprecedented”, ”not seen since the days of the Viet Nam war”, (so how can it be unprecedented?), ”similar to the revolution of 1776” (so now the Revolutionary War was waged by anarchists and domestic terrorists?). Yet the ”guard rails of democracy have held”, the ”longest standing democracy is reeling” (Democracy for which class?), the ”leader of the free world was under attack” (by free world you mean capitalist world!), and now it is time to show ”respect for the upset voters by telling the truth”. (Since when do capitalists know how to tell the truth?)
President Elect Biden has announced that ”democracy is under assault, in the Capitol, no less”. If by democracy, he means democracy of the capitalists, then he is correct. The protesters are determined to enact democracy of the proletariat!
A journalist announced that this ”assault on rule of law does not represent who we are”. Further, the ”American people do not like anarchy, they want law and order”. Speak for yourself and your class! The American people have just spoken, loud and clear! Your idea of ”anarchy”, of ”law and order”, is nothing other than working class democracy!
The authorities, those who guard the capitalist, swiftly took action. They announced a 6pm curfew. The DC National Guard was mobilized. Various internet accounts have ”locked out” Trump. No more tweeting for that boy! The ”darkest day in American history” is now a thing of the past! Now it is time to hold people accountable!
With that in mind, the authorities have decided that Trump is entirely to blame, and must be punished. In fact, he must be removed from office! He must not be allowed to serve his final few days as president. The only question is one of impeachment (which has been tried before) or of invoking the twenty fifth, which is to say the twenty fifth amendment to the Constitution.
To say that this makes no sense, is an under statement. If fact, it is a complete muddle. It is also a fact that this muddle, on the part of the bourgeois, is sure to work in the favour of the working class.
In fact, this Day of Reckoning was an open conflict with the capitalists. It stopped short of being an armed insurrection, as the workers were not armed. It can be thought of as a skirmish, a ”probing offensive”, one which determined the strength of the defences of the Capitol. No doubt the information gained will prove to be most valuable, to be used at the day of the insurrection.
The working people who took part in that Day of Reckoning performed a most valuable service. They went to Washington in order to defend their democratic rights, in this case the right to a free and fair election. The fact that they are devoted to Trump is of secondary importance.
Perhaps this will help to drive home the point, to conscious people, those who are aware of the revolutionary theories of Marx and Lenin, that the proletariat need leaders. They are doing their part, active to the best of their ability. It is not their fault that they are not class conscious. That consciousness can only come from an outside source, middle class intellectuals. That is where you take centre stage.
In other words, there is an urgent need for a proper Communist Party, one which advocates for the Dictatorship Of the Proletariat. The ball is in your court.
